Attract Job Applicants from People Who are Not Looking for Work

Attracting passive job seekers

As companies have restarted the recruitment process, as the effects of the global pandemic gradually calm down, it is essential to consider the type of applicant you are looking for. Unfortunately, interested and active applicants only make up 30% of the job seeker pool. Conversely, 70% are passive job seekers passionate about their work, engaged in enhancing their skills and reasonably satisfied with their careers. These individuals should be considered highly desirable prospects with excellent talent that can drive your business to greater heights. Learning how to attract this latter group can benefit your company in several ways.

#1- Become more socially active:

Social platforms such as LinkedIn are excellent places to promote yourself as an employer. Timely posts representing workplace culture and team events can showcase the benefits of joining your company to a passive job seeker. This can also be demonstrated on the career page on your website. These individuals are more likely to visit your website once they have engaged with your social media platforms. You can also encourage your current employees to engage with company social media pages through likes, comments and reviews.

#2- Engage with key candidates:

Maintaining contact with previous employees who have contributed to your company’s success can also ensure you have the right individuals for your team. By following previous employees on a professional platform such as LinkedIn, you can stay up to date with their skill development, interest and career movements. This also allows you to reach back out to them if a suitable position opens up within your company.

#3- Encourage current employees to become your advocates:

Your current employees are the backbone of your company. Encouraging current employees to engage with the company through professional and personal means, such as LinkedIn, Instagram accounts, and review platforms, can showcase workplace culture to potential employees. This can be further rewarded within the company through a referral service. This may involve rewarding current employees for recommending suitable and appropriate candidates to fulfil roles within the company. These rewards may be monetary, gifts or something specific to your industry or company.

#4- Use recruitment tools:

Utilise recruitment tools to quickly and effectively find a suitable candidate for a position. You can find the most relevant and qualified passive job seekers by filtering recruitment tools or agencies. These tools and applications can give insight into a candidate’s career history and qualifications, which can help you decide if a candidate is suitable for a particular role.

#5- Staff retention and networking:

Maintaining quality and top-performing employees through appropriate retention strategies is the most cost-effective way to retain your staff. Acquisition of new employees can be costly for any company to find qualified staff that will also fit in with your company culture. Furthermore, through networking opportunities, you can further promote your business activities while engaging with similar-minded individuals who may be suitable for your company. These relationships can be invaluable for both yourself and potential new employees who get to learn about the company before working there.
